Our clients were excited to transform their rarely used basement into an income suite offering 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. With less than 900 square feet to work with, it was important to maximize the living space. We utilized and framed in as much space as possible in order to offer moderate sized bedrooms and plenty of storage and a built in custom laundry closet with stackable washer and dryer. The space under the stairs was finished with drywall and paint to add even more storage. The kitchen area needed more natural lighting so a window was cut out and installed.
Since concrete can be cold, damp, hard and uninviting, Kapiti Built recommended installing a subfloor which creates a positive air flow ensuring a warm and dry basement. We decided to use DRIcore and it worked incredibly well. Vinyl flooring was later installed along with IKEA kitchen cabinets (ordered and picked out by client) and all new Samsung appliances.
